The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) (5 U.S.C. §552 et. seq.) generally provides any person with an enforceable right of access to federal agency records except those that are protected from disclosure by a statutory exemption or special law enforcement exclusion. There are nine FOIA exemptions, which are discussed later in this section.
