Overview The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the largest federal source of health and biomedical research funding in the world, investing more than $32 billion a year. NIH is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is comprised of 27 institutes and centers, each with a specific research agenda.
