Just considering the word “portal” makes one think of numerous movies where a portal opens up to enable the ability to travel through time and space. And to add some drama, it’s always important that the characters race through the portal before it closes up for good.

Speaking of closing portals, our friends at the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers recently told their members that the Department of the Treasury is notifying recipients of State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) who complete project and expenditure reports annually that the Annual SLFRF Project and Expenditure reporting portal will close tomorrow, June 25. After that date, SLFRF annual reporters will no longer be able to submit the 2025 Annual SLFRF Project and Expenditure report.

Those recipients who have already submitted their 2025 report do not need to take further action. Recipients were required to obligate SLFRF funds by the obligation deadline of Dec. 31, 2024, and annual reporters must report how they have obligated their SLFRF funds to Treasury in the 2025 report. Treasury offers several resources to help support recipients in submitting their reports including the following:

Recipients must return to Treasury any SLFRF funds that were not obligated by Dec. 31, 2024. Treasury also shared more information with recipients in March on compliance reviews and recoupment efforts. Treasury notes that it is committed to recouping funds that recipients obligated or expended impermissibly, as well as to recapturing funds that they did not obligate by the obligation deadline.

Just like in the movies, the portal is closing quickly. Recipients should be aware of this and make all efforts not to have their reports left behind.
