The Department of the Interior Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) is providing about $725 million in mandatory funding to 22 states and the Navajo Nation under the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) grant program (Assistance Listing 15.252) to help communities clean up “problem areas” — dangerous environmental conditions and pollution caused by past coal mining.
