Regardless of their status as federal award recipients, employers with 20 or more employees, state and local governments and their political subdivisions, employment agencies and labor unions with 25 or more members are prohibited by the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) from discriminating in employment against individuals who are 40 years of age or older.
