The review of applications that involve human subjects in research is a multi-step process. The process begins with the submission of an application from the PI/PD to the entity’s IRB office who screens the initial application packet and corresponds with the PI/PD as needed. Once the screening has been completed, the application is submitted, as appropriate, to the Board for review, unless the research is exempted (see Fig. 312-1).
